The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. We wish to appoint a Research Service Manager to oversee the processes, audit and system needs of the School’s portfolio of research grants and consultancies. The post holder will report directly to the Heads of Research Operations and will be responsible for ensuring that an efficient and effective service is provided to both faculty staff and research funders.
This is a busy and varied role which requires the post holder to manage our Internal and External Audit Requirements, with the support of the Research Service Assistants. In addition to this responsibility, you will work closely with the Research Funding Manager and the Research Finance Manager to identify and implement changes required to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the department, improving the information and training that is available on research administration and to find new ways of promoting good practice.
As well as working closely with office colleagues, the post holder is expected to build strong relationships with staff from other areas of the School and to work collaboratively with them to develop an integrated research management system. Finally the post holder will be required to maintain all on-line portal access, and collaborate with the Head of Research Operation in sourcing and implementing a new Research Costing tool, to replace our current system.
The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree and have a professional qualification in management, legal or finance field and/or equivalent experience. The post holder will ideally have detailed knowledge of the financial aspects of research project management, strong analytical skills and practical experience of systems and procedural change. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate judgement, initiative and creativity and who has the ability to disseminate complex information clearly and effectively.
The post is full-time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional Support Pathway Grade 7 scale in the range £44,226 to £50,629 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London, Keppel Street.
