The English Department at CSU is a vibrant and diverse place. We share a passion for exploring the multiple and dynamic ways that the English language is used to meet the demands of life in the twenty-first century.
The Department of English at Colorado State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructor of Linguistics. We seek an excellent teacher with expertise in Linguistics to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs. Initially, the successful applicant will teach one course per semester in undergraduate linguistics (e.g., Phonology, Morphology, Lexis; Syntax and Semantics; Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis) or graduate level English linguistics (e.g., Syntax for ESL/EFL; Phonology/Morphology for ESL/EFL), or graduate elective courses within the candidate’s expertise. Depending on funding and program need, additional courses may be available at a later time for candidates with the ability to teach courses in College Composition, and a range of other composition and lower-division English classes. Instructors will be expected to meet departmental objectives for the courses they teach.
Required Job Qualifications
- PhD in Linguistics or related field (e.g., Applied Linguistics, TEFL)
- Evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level in the US and/or abroad
- Evidence of expertise in areas of teaching duties
- Fluent or near-fluent English skills

The statement of Teaching Philosophy will be submitted to the Category: Statement of Teaching Philosophy. It will NOT be included in the Category: Portfolio.
For the Portfolio category (evidence of teaching effectiveness), we would like to leave it up to you to determine what you think best represents your teaching. Evidence of teaching effectiveness might include representative teaching observations, inventive assignments, samples of student feedback, syllabi or other class materials. These are some of the things that candidates have sent in the past, but we would like applicants to choose what they think best demonstrates their approach to teaching well.

Semifinalist candidates will be interviewed via video conferencing. Based on those interviews, we will then bring finalists to campus. This is a regional search. Travel expenses for interviews will be limited to a maximum of $350 per candidate. Application materials of semifinalist candidates, including letters of reference, will be made available for review by the entire faculty of the Department of English.
