About Us

It's an exciting time to be joining UWE. With Strategy 2020 now fully underway we are making major investments in our key strategy priority area: outstanding learning. A new Academic Practice Directorate (APD) has been created to work across the university to engage and support our academic communities in the design and delivery of outstanding programmes and outstanding academic practice.

About the Role

We are now building the APD core team and are seeking highly experienced individuals who can provide expert leadership in UWE@s academic practice and curricular enhancement activities. As well as leading and contributing to enhancement-related cross-University strategic policies, projects and programmes, the Associate Directors will be hands-on: providing operational support for academic staff and students through team development events (generic and bespoke) and mentoring and coaching activities and support.

About You

You will be an established leader in your field with a proven track record in curricular development and innovation in learning and teaching and a sustained record of engagement in scholarship and enquiry in a relevant area of practice. Experience with working with staff and students at all levels within a University setting, you will have the negotiation, facilitation, coaching and mentoring skills to make our strategic priorities a reality across the institution.

There are up to four posts available.

For candidates who have achieved a substantial and distinguished record of activity and outputs in teaching and learning scholarship and enquiry at the national/international level, the panel will consider whether they are eligible for a Professorial title on appointment to the role.

You will have:
Essential

  1. Senior or Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
  2. A higher degree in a relevant subject area.

Desirable

  1. A recognised higher education teaching qualification.

Other benefits, in addition to salary:

  • a generous holiday allowance of 35 days
  • up to 12.5 bank holiday/closure days per year in addition;
  • flexible working;
  • excellent defined benefit pension schemes;
  • option to participate in the cycle to work scheme;
  • family friendly policies;
  • onsite nursery at our Frenchay Campus;
  • option to purchase childcare vouchers.

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give our students access to everything they need to succeed – with £300m being spent on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation between now and 2020 to enhance our offer even further. Frenchay campus is within close proximity to excellent motorway links and within walking distance of two train stations, making UWE Frenchay Campus the ideal place to work for those wishing to commute to Bristol.
