Director of the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment

The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University is seeking a faculty member to direct RECETOX – the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment.

The RECETOX  Center is a research and educational facility of the Faculty of Science with three accredited programs on the BSc, MSc and PhD levels. The research infrastructure of the Centre is part of the Czech Roadmap of large research infrastructures. The Center also serves as the National Center for Toxic Substances and the UNEP Stockholm Convention Regional Centre for capacity building and technology transfer in Central and Eastern Europe. 

Position description: 

  • Responsibility for coordination of teaching activities on the BSc, MSc a PhD levels of Environmental chemistry, Ecotoxicology and Mathematical biology programs guaranteed by the Centre. 
  • Responsibility for scientific coordination of four research directions of the center (Environmental chemistry, Photochemistry and supramolecular chemistry, Protein engineering and Ecotoxicology), core facilities of the research infrastructure (Trace analysis laboratory, Global environmental assessment and information system GENASIS, and the Central European population study CELSPAC), and the Regional Centre for capacity building and technology transfer. 
  • Responsibility for financial sustainability of the Centre in relation to projects of European Operational Programs, and the related coordination of the preparation of major framework projects. 


  • Professor or associate professor (or equivalent) in the field of environmental science (Environmental chemistry, Ecotoxicology, Risk analysis and related disciplines), 
  • Pedagogical experience (systematic lecture activity, supervision of MSc and PhD students at a Czech or foreign university, ability to lecture in English), 
  • Outstanding publication record (parameters: cumulative impact factor, H index, citation), 
  • Experience in leading research teams, 
  • Experience in managing large teams (institutes, centers), 
  • Good knowledge of English.
