The Estates Office is responsible to the University for the efficient, effective and compliant provision of all building and engineering services across all University buildings whether owned or leased. We provide this service across three main areas, the Main Campus, Stoke Bishop and Langford.
The Estates Office includes Facilities Management Hard Services, which comprises all planned, reactive, compliance, statutory and capital maintenance. This position is based within the Facilities Management Hard Services section of Estates, which has approximately 120 employees comprising professional staff, secretarial support, supervisory staff and a direct labour force around 80 staff.
Working in the Estates Facilities Management Hard Services Team, with colleagues based at Stoke Bishop, you will be directly line managed by the Maintenance Manager.
Carry out tasks independently and also assisting other qualified trades persons on a range of duties. These may be allocated to a specific area of work and, in such circumstances, you will become the main point of contact with Departmental users in the event of repairs being necessary. You will also receive specific work instructions from the Maintenance Manager – Residencies Campus and Maintenance Technicians.
The General Worker responsibilities will include general building and construction based work including maintenance and repair of building fabric, painting and decorating, basic plumbing, tiling (floor and wall), plastering along with other work deemed suitable by the Maintenance Manager.
You will ensure that all records (written, electronic and on mobile devices) are kept up to date, to allow other staff to check on priorities, in periods of absence.
Have excellent communication, customer care and the ability to liaise with staff at all levels to ensure that colleagues in Departments and Facilities Managers are made aware of any work that may affect them/the building they are located in, as well as keep them updated on the status of their various job requests at all times and within Service Levels. Work with minimum supervision, plan and organise maintenance, servicing, fault rectification, inspections, testing of equipment and complete job requests sent to you on the mobile device.
Attend to any faults or incidents that occur. Use own judgement and experience to decide the criticality of works, use Root Cause Analysis to assist in solving problems and issues to ensure that their root causes are addressed completely the first time.
