About the opportunity
A new opportunity has become available in School of Life and Environmental Sciences and Sydney Institute of Agriculture, within the Faculty of Science. Our excellent life sciences research and teaching are shaping new approaches required to address a range of increasingly important challenges faced by the world that span a range of disciplinary areas, including soil and food security, soil-plant-microbe interactions etc.
The Sydney Institute of Agriculture a new initiative aims to provide cutting-edge research and outreach for agricultural innovation, business and policy.
In this research focused role, the main objectives will include:
- The design and creation of an ensemble modelling framework that will provide real-time, updatable and forecasted high resolution spatial predictions of soil water, soil temperature, and other soil and climate variables relevant to the farm scale.
- Coupling of real time and forecasted soil and climate information into biomass growth and crop yield likelihood models.
- Delivery of an online decision-support tool for serving real time and forecasted high resolution soil moisture and climate information together with productivity estimates to landholders

- PhD in soil science or a relevant discipline area.
- Experience in digital soil mapping.
- Experience in soil sensing.
- Experience in the area of spatial and temporal modelling.
- Experience in programming languages.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
- A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
- Full driving license.
