The School of Languages and Cultures
The School of Languages and Cultures has grown rapidly in recent years and now has over 1000 EFTSL (8,000 course enrollments). It is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with over 45 academic staff. The School teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree programs.
At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese) and growing programs in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Staff research and supervise PhD students in these fields and also in Australian Aboriginal languages.
The School leads the Brisbane Universities Language Alliance which manages cross-institutional LOTE enrollments between UQ and the other two major Universities in south-east Queensland: the Queensland University of Technology, and Griffith University.
The School is looking to appoint an Associate Professor in the area/s of Indonesian language and Applied Linguistics. The successful appointee will engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and contribute to the further development of the School’s Indonesian and Applied Linguistics programs and others, as well as performing research, administrative and other activities associated with the School and its programs.
Applicants should possess a PhD in an area of Indonesian language and linguistics, applied linguistics, linguistics, translation and interpreting, or related fields. The applicant should also have demonstrated capacity to implement effective language-teaching methodologies and use alternative modes of teaching, including blended and/or flexible learning. The applicant should also have demonstrated evidence of a national and international profile in research through publication in high quality outlets in relevant fields.
This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic Level D. The remuneration package will be in the range $135,910 - $149,731 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $159,014 - $175,186 p.a.).
