Master, Downing College Cambridge
The Governing Body of Downing College, Cambridge intends to elect a new Master to succeed Professor Geoffrey Grimmett on his retirement at the end of the 2017/2018 academic year.
The College wishes to appoint a Master of integrity and stature, with a distinguished record of achievement and leadership in academia or another professional field and who is committed to the ideals and values of higher education and academic excellence. The successful candidate will command the intellectual respect of the Fellowship and provide leadership and motivation through example and consensus in developing the intellectual, social and collegial life of the College.
This person will also have the vision, personality and drive to play a major part in further developing the College’s standing and in representing the College within Cambridge University and beyond.
Downing College was founded in 1800 through a bequest made by Sir George Downing. The College is medium-sized by Cambridge standards, and is home to a lively and diverse scholarly community of around 450 undergraduates, 250 graduates and 50 Fellows, supported by 165 staff. The College’s teaching, learning and research span the full range of subjects studied within the University.
