The Faculty of Arts is seeking to appoint a part-time (0.6, term-time only) Senior Tutor in its School of Humanities to cover the maternity leave of the current postholder. The Senior Tutor is one of a team based in the three Schools of the Faculty of Arts.  Working with one full-time Senior Tutor in the School of Humanities, the successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of high quality professional pastoral support and advice to students and will play a pivotal role in supporting the student experience, student progression and well-being. The postholder will be the first point of contact for students wishing to discuss a range of pastoral and welfare issues and will act as the interface between the academic staff in each school and the central support services in the University, ensuring appropriate communication and actions. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of teaching materials in the subjects taught in the School to support study skills, transferable skills and employability.  The postholder will work closely with the wider team of Senior Tutors to develop appropriate student support mechanisms across the Faculty.

The successful candidate will be degree educated in a relevant subject discipline with substantial professional experience in working with students in a post-16 environment, ideally in higher education. Evidence of an understanding of student needs and an interest in, and contribution to, the development of an excellent student learning experience are paramount.  The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with students, academic and administrative colleagues at all levels of the university. The postholder must be able to work with students, in a diplomatic, sensitive and supportive manner.
