Professor/Head of Department in Physiology
The Department of Physiology is a leading research and teaching department in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia’s foremost research-intensive university.
The Department has a strong record of excellence in research, research training, learning and teaching and community engagement. Its aims are to remain at the forefront of scientific discovery in novel and imaginative research methods in the areas of cardiovascular health, neurophysiology and muscle and exercise physiology. In the 2017 QS World University subject rankings, Melbourne was ranked as 11th in the world for Anatomy and Physiology.
The Head of Department provides outstanding academic and administrative leadership, promoting innovative and high-impact research in the Department, the Faculty and the University. Excellence in teaching performance and high quality student graduates ensure significant contributions to the Bachelor of Biomedicine, Bachelor of Science and the graduate Doctor of Medicine.
To be successful in this key leadership role, it is expected that candidates will have a research doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and ideally a medical qualification; performance and pre-eminence as a scholar of international standing;world-class research output in high-impact scientific publications; and substantial competitive grants won, managed and led. Leadership of research teams, significant HDR supervisions and mentorship experience is required. A collegiate, collaborative, interdisciplinary and translational orientation that enhances the Department’s research culture will be critical.
This is a full-time, continuing appointment as a Professor. Appointment as Head of Discipline will be for five years initially with a possible continuation by negotiation for a further term. An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
