About the opportunity
The ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis (ARC CoETP) - University of Sydney Node (the Node) at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Sydney is seeking to appoint one Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of Plant Molecular Biology in relation to light-harvesting complexes and chlorophyll biochemistry. The position is full-time fixed term for three years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees at the University of Sydney.
ARC CoETP seeks to develop and harness advances in photosynthesis research for photosynthetic improvement (http://photosynthesis.org.au/) and the Node focuses on improving light energy efficiency. The successful appointee will establish the research programs that complement and extend the research activities funded in the Node. A key feature of research within the Centre is the ability to conduct research across a range of scales from pigment molecules to its biosynthetic pathways, from the genes encoding the enzymes involving in the chlorophyll biosynthesis to manipulating the pigment compositions in whole plants and crops.
The Primary responsibilities of this position will include continuing the laboratory research program investigating light-harvesting complexes, identification of candidate genes encoding the enzymes involved in the modification of chlorophylls, and the technologies for transforming/changing pigments and their associated proteins in order to improve light-harvesting efficiency.

- A doctoral degree in Plant biochemistry/Plant Molecular Biology or in a relevant field;
- Prior research experience in the use of research methodologies related to molecular mechanisms of light-harvesting complexes and chlorophyll;
- Demonstrated success in the publication of high-impact work in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals;
- Skills in molecular spectral analysis, HPLC/FPLC, and genetic modification technologies in bacteria and plants.
- Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment both autonomously and as a part of a team.
