This post is full-time and fixed term to cover a period of maternity leave (1 Sept 2017 – 31 July 2018).
The Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University has a long-standing tradition of outstanding research and education and is widely recognised as one of the leading departments in its field. The Department has a welcoming and collegial atmosphere, and is sited between the Cathedral and the Castle on the World Heritage Site in the centre of the city of Durham.
In 2013, Durham University entered into a partnership with the Archbishops’ Council of the Church of England, to provide validation for a suite of higher education awards for ordinands, lay ministry students and others studying in colleges, courses and dioceses across England – the new Common Awards in Theology, Ministry and Mission. A small team has been created in Durham to oversee the academic and administrative development of this partnership, led by Prof. Mike Higton (Professor of Theology and Ministry), Dr Frances Clemson (Assistant Professor in Theology and Ministry) and Dr Elena Martin (Quality Assurance Manager).
We are now seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Theology and Ministry for 11 months to cover maternity leave during the next academic year. The appointee will work closely with Prof Higton. The appointee will be a scholar with a record of excellence in research and education in an area of theology relevant to Christian thought, practice, ministry, and mission in the contemporary world. S/he will also have a detailed knowledge of ministerial training in the Church of England.
