Postdoctoral Fellow in the Neural Processing of Memory and Olfaction in Virtual Environments

The Department of Psychology is part of the Faculty for Social Sciences at Stockholm University. The department comprises over 160 members of staff, who conduct research in all major areas of Psychology, as well as postgraduate education at all levels from undergraduate to PhD. This postdoctoral position is sponsored by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation via the research project ”Nosewise”.

Project description

The research project is led by Associate Professor Jonas Olofsson, andfocuses on odor-based learning and memory using interactive digital games and virtual environments. A main aim is to develop methods that will enhance sensory and cognitive abilities using scent technology.The project is located at Stockholm University and is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Christian Doeller at the KAVLI institute in Trondheim, Norway, and Associate Professor Simon Niedenthal at Malmö University.

Main responsibilities

The candidate will be involved in all stages of the research project. This includes planning of the research study designs, recruitment of participants and collection of behavioral and physiological data, as well as research communication in written articles, participation in courses, and presentations at research conferences, etc. In all aspects, the work is conducted in consultation with research collaborators.

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research, and a postdoctoral researcher has received a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is determined to fulfill the requirements for a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria

The doctoral degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, such as sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

In the appointment process, particular weight will be given to research proficiency, as specified above. The candidate should be skilled in scientific writing and communication in English, as well as in advanced statistical methods. The candidate should have documented research experience in perception, memory, or related topics. Documented research experience in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) or other neuroimaging techniques, computer programming and cognitive training methods constitute further merits. As a person, the candidate should be flexible, communicative and collaborative. Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project.

Terms of employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years. Start date October 1th 2017 or by agreement.
