The position will be aligned with the Discipline of Computer Science and IT, part of one of Australia's largest and leading educational facilities in the field. The Role and Responsibilities
The Professor is a senior academic and eminent researcher in the specialist field, contributing significantly to teaching and research outputs, building capability of staff and promoting strong academic performance. The Professor will provide high level research leadership developing and leading research project teams and programs and fostering a vibrant research culture. He or she will be required to develop a high-quality and productivity-driven research network across RMIT and with external national and global partners. The Professor will also make a significant contribution to teaching and learning in the discipline with the aim of improving learning outcomes for students. The Professor will make significant contributions to the planning and strategic direction of the School, taking on major academic leadership roles involving participation in various committees within the School, College and University and external to the University, as appropriate.
This specific position calls for an international leader in the area of Data Science, as a subfield of Computer Science. In particular, the candidate will provide vision and strategic leadership for the Big Data and Data Analytics research group and for the Master of Data Science. Moreover, the candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with RMIT University's research framework implemented via the Enabling Capability Platforms, in particular, the platform on Information and Systems (Engineering).
The Professor will be a researcher/academic of international standing in Data Science or related sub-discipline so as to be a role model and an effective mentor for other academic staff.
Skills & Experience Required
To be eligible to apply, candidates must have a PhD in the relevant field.
Candidates should have demonstrated research distinction and an internationally recognised research track record in computational Data Science, e.g., Big Data Management and Access, Data Analytics, Machine Learning or associated areas, as evidenced by regular publication in the highest-quality relevant international venues related to Data Science, a proven ability to sustain and grow Research Groups and Centres through the attraction of external funding, and demonstrated strong engagement with industry and other external organisations.
