The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled Senior Management Accountant with significant higher education experience.
You will report to, and deputise for, the Finance Director and lead the School’s management accounting function, with responsibility for providing financial management information; reporting to statutory committees including the Finance & Development Committee and the Audit Committee to facilitate effective management of the School’s resources. You will represent the School’s interests to the HE SORP Board to influence future changes to UK accounting standards in alliance with research-intensive higher education providers.
You will be responsible for leading the production of financial information for the School’s statutory returns. This role is responsible for the direction and development of the School’s systems for budgetary control including Agresso reports; oversight of TRAC and Full Economic Costing (FEC) systems to ensure compliance with requirements and efficient delivery. You will also provide assistance in the financial appraisal of proposed developments and existing operations across the School.
The ideal candidate will have a recognised CCAB Accounting qualification with a comprehensive understanding of Management Accounting and finances within a Higher Education Institute. You will have significant experience of explaining accounting requirements to staff who are not financially trained and have proven substantial experience of systems for TRAC and Full Economic Costing and returns to HEFCE and HESA.
The successful candidate will have line management experience and strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage workload allocation, develop and support staff through formal and informal frameworks e.g. using appraisals and one to one meetings, and motivate staff to deliver an excellent service.
The post is full-time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional Support Pathway Grade 8 scale in the range £53,477 to £61,380 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
