The Australian National University (ANU) is delighted to offer an outstanding opportunity to lead the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW); ranked among the world's leading research institutes for Chinese Studies.

Based in the nation's capital, ANU is one of Australia's foremost research universities. The ANU College of Asia & the Pacific – which CIW operates within – has a long-standing reputation for outstanding research expertise and global policy impact, hosting the largest collection of expertise on the Asia Pacific in the English-speaking world. For over 70 years, ANU Sinologists have pioneered new fields in China studies and led the world in understanding Chinese societies. CIW is a manifestation of this proud record, and is the manifestation of ANU's and the Australian government's commitment to building on this legacy.

The Director of CIW is a broad and strategic leadership role with a strong external focus. The Director plays a critical role in the fostering of world-leading research agendas; the delivery of world-class education; engagement with partner institutions in the Chinese world; and the deep engagement on policy issues with Australian and international governments.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Asia & the Pacific, Professor Michael Wesley, the successful candidate will be an internationally recognised academic in Chinese Studies and will bring commitment, new ideas and enthusiasm to the role. If you are a passionate and strategically-oriented academic, an expert on China, and you are seeking a challenging and rewarding leadership role in a high-profile, research-intensive academic environment, we strongly encourage your application.
