Situated in the heart of the vibrant, historic city of York, York St John University has a long and proud tradition as a distinguished education provider.  Our success is founded on the quality of academic teaching and research, our thriving campus environment, our diverse events and conferencing programme, and our values of an inclusive, innovative and ambitious community with a strong sense of belonging. We are recruiting for a maternity cover (12 months) for the Events and Conference Manager who will play a valuable role in the development of a new event programme at the University. This is an excellent opportunity to join a lively and ambitious events and conference team. 

Based within the External Relations Directorate, the Events and Conference Manager will be responsible for managing a busy team to deliver an annual programme of events across nine schools and the professional services teams; including academic delivery, high profile events across the university and within the wider community, assisting in city wide partnership involvement. In addition the successful candidate will have responsibility for achieving commercial income targets, and developing income through commercial activity, managing events budgets and funding across the core activity.

At all times you will ensure the reputation of the University is enhanced through the development and delivery of high quality events and customer service.

You will be an experienced Events and Conference Manager and able to demonstrate:

  • A strong background of managing a team of professional personnel
  • A passion for delivery of high quality events and conferences
  • Proven track record of achieving commercial sales targets for events 

Proactively building professional relationships with a range of stakeholders is an important part of the role, so you will also need strong interpersonal skills and should enjoy working positively with different people. 

You must be educated to degree level / have relevant professional qualifications, or have equivalent experience.
