Position Summary

The half-time Education Abroad Coordinator is responsible for providing general education abroad advising, assisting with the registration of individual and group travelers on departmental initiated programs, and supporting risk management policies and protocols for international travel. This is a part-time appointment subject to review and reappointment. This position reports to the International Risk Manager and provides support and advises for Education Abroad and Risk Management.

Required Job Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, business, science, public administration, international/intercultural studies, or a related field
2. Experience living, studying or working outside of the United States for a minimum of three months
3. Public speaking experience
4. Strong written communication skills

Preferred Job Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in a relevant field
2. Experience with risk management in an international context
3. Demonstrated strong organizational skills
4. Previous experience in education abroad program administration and student advising in an academic setting
5. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and communicator
6. Experience using StudioAbroad

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Duty/Responsibility

  • Manage CSU Education Abroad programs in one or more assigned geographic regions of the world (currently individual and group travel programs).
  • Develop and maintain participant materials for application, acceptance, registration, orientation, and evaluation specific to CSU programs in assigned areas. Maintain the web-based information associated with these programs.
  • Advise outbound students on visa regulations for CSU-sponsored program destinations through email, student appointments and walk in advising. Communicate with appropriate consular officials, faculty and students on changes to visa regulations.
  • Coordinate regional and program-specific orientation sessions for outbound students.
  • Collaborate with Director of Education Abroad to coordinate campus visits from partner institutions abroad.
  • Collaborate with International Risk Manager and Director of Education Abroad on program evaluation. Write program reports as requested.
  • As assigned, conduct international site visits with current and potential partner institutions.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Serve as the campus advisor and administrative support for educational opportunities abroad in assigned geographic regions of the world (currently individual and group travel registrations).
  • Meet with potential Education Abroad students individually during walk in hours and appointments to assess appropriate program placement with regard to academic, personal, professional, and financial goals for Education Abroad.
  • Advise students, faculty, staff and parents on Colorado State University administrative policies and procedures as related to education abroad
  • At a variety of campus events and activities, present on Education Abroad to prospective CSU and education abroad students, parents and members of the CSU community.
  • Communicate with students abroad. Consult with appropriate people in effective and timely manner for problem resolution, crisis avoidance, and crisis response.
  • Assist students upon return from education abroad with questions related to program evaluation, credit transfer, future opportunities, etc.

SPECIAL PROJECT ASSISTANCE

Duty/Responsibility

  • Advise students and group leaders on completion of Logistical Review; address risk mitigation and emergency planning before, during, and after travel abroad.
  • Maintain the web-based information and database materials on the travel registration process.
  • Coordinate regional and/or program-specific orientation sessions (including podcasts) for outbound students in collaboration with the Campus Health Network.
  • Facilitate event and meeting planning.
  • Stay involved with Education Abroad and International Risk Management best practices through meetings, workshops and conference attendance of local, regional and national professional organizations.
  • Support guidelines for risk management and emergency response procedures for students and group leaders.
  • In collaboration with the International Risk Manager, respond to student emergencies abroad, especially for departmentally initiated and/or managed travel and non-CSU/unaffiliated programming.
  • Support other Education Abroad and Risk Management programming and events, as assigned.
