The College of Science, Engineering and Health comprises four Schools delivering a broad range of programs in science, engineering, health and technology at apprenticeship, certificate, bachelor, masters and PhD levels. The School of Architecture and Design has a number of workshops and studio environments. These facilities range from simple modelling spaces to complex workshops with heavy machinery.
The Technical Officer Workshops and Studios is part of a team in the School that provides specialist technical support to academic staff and students. The Technical Officer will ensure that the School's workshop and studio facilities are developed and maintained to the highest standards and in accordance with relevant legislation. Working across a wide range of activities, materials and processes, the Technical Officer will deliver creative solutions to the unique and challenging problems typically associated with design education and concepts. To take on this role you will possess a relevant qualification or trade, strong technical knowledge and expertise in the areas of Architecture and Design, with a strong focus on robotic programming and operation, as well as developed written and verbal communication skills. These, combined with your sound knowledge of OHS and your demonstrated ability to deliver flexible solutions will ensure your continued success.
Your Responsibilities The Technical Officer, Workshops and Studios is part of a team in the School that provides specialist technical support to academic staff and students to ensure the School achieves its teaching, research and commercial objectives. They will ensure that the School's workshop and studio facilities are developed and maintained to the highest standards and in accordance with relevant legislation.
Skills & Experience Required
You will be required to provide technical support, supervise, instruct and train students and staff in the resolution and production of their design ideas and concepts. In addition, you will advise students and staff on technical matters in regard to technical design, safety instructions in the operation of equipment and tools and source new and innovative techniques from industry. You will provide tailored demonstrations and instructions to students and plan and prepare workshops and studio environments in consultation with academic staff.
Essential: A relevant qualification and / or equivalent trade / equivalent experience
