Senior Lecturer in health systems and health policy

Karolinska Institutet, Department of Public Health Sciences

At the Department of Public Health Sciences we conduct research, teaching and applied work based on public health science and epidemiology. The research is aimed at analysing health determinants on the population level, and developing and evaluating preventative structural and individualised measures, including legislation and guidelines. The field also includes health economics, health systems research and implementation research. Our activities have a strongly international flavour, and the Department's researchers are scientific advisers to authorities and other decision-makers on the regional, national and international level. The Department is divided into research groups operating within the fields of global health, public health epidemiology and social medicine with a total of 150 employees. In addition, we have around 65 Ph.D students.

We are seeking to appoint someone who will conduct research within the field of global health with special emphasis on health systems and health policy, in particular, in the field of maternal health. Research is carried out in multi-disciplinary, international cooperation projects. Working tasks will include developing research, both in terms of methodology and the subject, at the department. Teaching and the further development of health systems and health policy research, particularly in the field of maternal healthcare, at third-cycle level as well as teaching at first- and second-cycle level at KI are also among the working tasks.

Entry requirements

All senior lecturers at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. Competence equivalent to the level of docent (associate professor) at KI is required.

We are looking for an experienced researcher who holds a PhD and has broad skills in health systems research and/or health policy research. The successful candidate will also have the relevant experience in implementation and intervention research. A track record of supervising students at first- or second-cycle level and experience of supervising Ph.D. students to completion are also required. The successful candidate will be able to express themselves fluently in both spoken and written English. You also have previous experience of work in low- and middle income countries during a long, consecutive period and have cooperated with researchers in Africa and/or Asia resulting in joint publications. Furthermore, it will be to your advantage if you have worked at an institution active in the field of global health research and located in another European country and have therefore built up an international network.

Knowledge in languages other than English is a merit.
