Aston Business School is one of Europe’s leading business schools, with 78% of its research rated world-leading or internationally excellent by REF 2014. It is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. There is a thriving research culture in the Accounting group, which has a strong reputation for rigorous and relevant research, and we are seeking to further strengthen this. Members of the group have impressive publications record and are involved in the editing of some important accounting journals including Accounting Forum, International Journal of Auditing and Advances in Environmental Accounting and Management. The group, that has a strong tradition of management accounting research, also hosts the annual Management Accounting Research Group (MARG) Conference. In addition there is a strong research interest in the accountability and governance areas. We are seeking to further strengthen these areas. We support participation in international conferences, supervision of PhDs via Dean’s or ESRC scholarships, and networking opportunities with businesses and professions. Other research support includes funded opportunities to host prominent visiting scholars, seed corn funding for research projects and excellent support for research grant applications.
We seek an inspirational and motivated individual to contribute to the group’s research, teaching and enterprise activities. Ideally we are looking for an ambitious individual who is prepared to work towards a promotion to Chair within a short space of time. Applicants should demonstrate a passion for their subject and be able to communicate that passion effectively to the academic and wider communities. We are keen to discuss new ideas in order to strengthen our existing research profile and complement our teaching provision. Candidates must be able to demonstrate world-leading, impactful research output and have a proven highly cited publication record in leading accounting and related journals. Further, they must have significant experience in leading externally funded research projects, mentoring junior faculty and doctoral/postdoctoral research supervision.
Currently the Accounting Group at Aston Business School has 17 full-time/part-time members of staff. The group offers dedicated undergraduate (B.Sc. Accounting for Management) and postgraduate (M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance) programmes in accounting. We have launched a new M.Sc. in International Accounting and Finance in 2017 and are seeing significant growth in student numbers.
