Founded in 1981, the University of Macau (“UM”) is the only comprehensive public-funded university in the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Supported by public funds, it aspires to be an outstanding, internationally-recognised institution of higher learning, firmly committed to a learner-centered education, focused research with impact and dedicated public service. It aims to nurture self-reflective, caring and socially responsible citizens with a global vision within a culturally diverse and intellectually challenging environment. Students and faculty members are recruited around the world. The University was relocated in 2014 to a campus of 20 times larger than its previous one. The new campus enables the University to establish the largest residential college system in Asia and set up the state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities. UM has actively reformed its education system in recent years by launching a new ‘4-in-1’ model of education that consists of discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education. It currently consists of more than 10,000 students and offers more than 130 bachelor’s, master’s, PhD and other certification programmes.
