Lecturer in Interior Architecture/Architecture

£32,004 – £38,183 pa pro rata

Grade: UH7

Part time position working 22.2 hours per week (0.6 fte)


Start date of post: 4th September 2017

We are looking for an interior architect/architect to join our academic Design Group to teach on undergraduate courses in the first instance and potentially postgraduate courses, making a contribution to research or commercial projects.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

• To prepare, teach, administer and assess interior architecture and design/architecture as well as contributing strategically to the development of this discipline area.
• To make a significant contribution to the Interior Architecture and Design pathway ensuring compliance with professional body standards and curriculum.
• Teaching and assessing components related to interior architecture and design provision.
• Marking, assessment of student work including the provision of constructive feedback to students.
• Design and development of teaching, learning and assessment materials for a range of modules; contribution to programme development and revision.
• Developing and maintaining site visit and placement contacts.
• To develop industry contacts, collaborative opportunities and strategic alliances related to curriculum and commercial developments, including student internships and the initiation of live projects.
• To make a strong contribution to the national and international profile of the courses.
• To develop aspects of the curriculum which support student global awareness and international engagement.
• Take the initiative in develop links, curriculum revisions, learning and teaching innovations, module and programme development and income generation project.

Skills and experience required:

• Interior Architecture, Architecture specialist subject knowledge and skills relating to contemporary commercial and public-sector spaces.
• Experience in interior related branding, refurbishing, renovating, reusing, decorating, and place making.
• To lead technical components of the undergraduate course, including communication modules, regulatory issues and aspects of teaching in the technical workshop.
• Experience in materials, surface design, and fabrication.
• Experience of teaching at HE level, undergraduate or postgraduate, including experience of assessment.
• Advanced user of CAD packages, Adobe suite, 3D Modeling software, digital fabrication related packages.
• Knowledge of business and professional practices within Interior Architecture employment, including regulatory matters.
• Technical knowledge and skills related to construction, detailing, building specifications and legal, ethical and regulatory matters in construction.

Qualifications required:

• Honours degree in Interior Architecture or related areas
• MA in relevant subject area
• Professional qualification in Architecture, Interior Architecture or related area are desirable
• Teaching qualification is also desirable
