The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Reader/Professor in Early Modern English Literature by September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment to this position offers a rare opportunity for an Early Modernist with vision and energy to provide academic leadership within a world-ranking department, and to play a key role in the ongoing development of the School of Humanities, the Faculty of Arts and the University.

The English Department enjoys an outstanding international reputation, and is well-known for its commitment to earlier forms of English literature, an area in which it has long had exceptional strengths in teaching and research. The Department enjoys extensive demand from talented applicants for admission to its undergraduate programmes, and is home to a thriving postgraduate community.

The successful candidate will have established an international reputation in research and publication, and will show the potential to maintain and further enhance this reputation. She or he will have experience in academic leadership, and a strong understanding of the current research environments in the UK and internationally.

The University welcomes applicants with specialisation in any area of Early Modern English Literature and its continued importance for the modern world.
