Research Contracts Manager

The Research Operations team, based within the Research and Innovation Services (R&IS) directorate provides institution-wide pre-award and post-award operational support for research and research-related work at Durham University. The team supports the development of funding proposals and handles the financial and contractual management of research projects throughout their lifecycle – providing a joined-up ‘conception-to-completion’ service.

The Research Contracts Manager will have oversight and responsibility for research contracting process across the full spectrum of activities delivered by the Research Operations team, with a specific focus on supporting the management of commercial and partnership-related contract negotiations. This will involve the management of Research & Innovation Services’ commercial contracts portfolio, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing and sign-off (within the University’s delegation of authority limits).

The post holder will act as a point of expertise within R&IS for legal and contracting matters relating to research for staff across the institution. They will be expected to contribute to the smooth running of research contracts activity, including by co-ordinating the development of standard agreements and by contributing to the design and implementation of robust internal contracting processes and workflows.
