The University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Reader/Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing from September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a 0.6 part-time role. Appointment to this post offers an exciting opportunity for a fiction writer with vision and energy to lead an expansion of the University’s provision in this area, within a Department of English with an outstanding international reputation.

The Department enjoys extensive demand from talented applicants for admission to its undergraduate programmes, and is home to a thriving postgraduate community. The postholder will develop and teach new units in creative writing within existing programmes and develop a business case for new provision in this area at MA level. The successful candidate will have an established reputation in fiction writing and will show the potential to maintain and further enhance this reputation. She or he will have a strong understanding of current developments in the field of creative writing and of emerging pedagogies and approaches to it as a discipline. There will be opportunities for the person appointed to participate in a number of Faculty-wide activities and networks related to the creative arts. Current clusters relevant to this post include Book Cultures, Global Feminisms, Black Arts and Humanities and Medical Humanities.

Timescale of appointment:
Long-listed candidates will be notified on or about 19th May 2017. They will be required to submit a sample of their work (in English, not more than 10,000 words) no later than 24th May 2017.

Short-listed candidates will be notified on or about 9th June 2017 and invited to interview. They will be asked to give a brief presentation based on their research to the interview panel and staff and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Arts, on the day of the interview.

Interview date: 28th June 2017.
Anticipated start date: September 2017
