The Library comprises three principal Library sites at Swanston Street, Bundoora and Carlton, as well as a library service at Bundoora East and at the Brunswick Campus. This role is based at the city campus.
The Role and Your Responsibilities
The major focus of this position is the physical maintenance of the collection, supervision of study areas and rostered service point activities. Any member of the library staff will be required to assist in other areas of library operations for limited periods, at the direction of the Supervisor. Rostered weekend work and evening shifts are an essential component of this position.
Skills & Experience Required
We are seeking energetic applicants who have experience in performing routine manual tasks under limited, direct, preferably shelving items in a Library. Your application will demonstrate a strong focus on effective communications skills, especially in dealing with customers. You should demonstrate an ability to work effectively within a team environment.
The applicant will have completed VCE or equivalent qualifications or progress towards Associate Diploma (Library and Information Studies). A knowledge and understanding of safe manual handling practices and of the Dewey Decimal classification system is desirable.
Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
Due to the operational requirements of the RMIT University Library, you will be employed for 40 weeks in each year. During the remaining 12 weeks each year in which you will not be required for service (the non-work period), your fortnightly pay will cease unless you are on approved paid leave. Your employment relationship will continue however, you may engage in other employment during this time.
