Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology invites applications from qualified individuals for a 3-year, full time postdoc position in philosophy.

The Department
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies has 21,2 full-time academic staff, 15 of whom belong to the philosophy section.

The Department teaches and supervises philosophy and religious studies at bachelor-, master- and PhD-level. In addition, it is responsible for a compulsory introductory course in theory of science and ethics (Examen Philosophicum) for the whole university, and offers a number of other courses available to the whole university.
The Department hosts several active research groups, and a number of externally funded research projects. The academic staff shows high activity in research-based publications and public dissemination, both individually and in groups.

The Project
The postdoc position is connected to the Department’s research group in aesthetics and phenomenology.  The project should show relevance to the research interests of this group, and thereby contribute to strengthening the research activities of this group.

The project description should not exceed 5 pages, and should describe the research topic, progress plan and dissemination plan. The interdisciplinary relevance of the project will be taken into account in the evaluation.
One third of the work time will be dedicated to assigned duties, primarily administrating the activities of the research group, such arranging regular meetings, workshops and conferences. This will also include responsibility for organizing interdisciplinary cooperation within the fields of aesthetics and phenomenology, in particular connecting relations between theoretical research and performing arts. The assigned duties will be spread out over the three-year period, and may include teaching. It is presupposed that the applicant will actively contribute to the work environment of the Department on a daily basis.

The applicant must hold a PhD in philosophy. The evaluation will emphasize the relevance of the PhD dissertation for the research areas of aesthetics and phenomenology, as well as the applicant’s professional and administrative background.

Terms of appointment
The position of postdoc is placed within code 1352 of the State salary regulations, and is remunerated according to salary level 57 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 488.900 – per year. Two percent of the gross salary is deducted and paid into the State Pension scheme.
The appointment will be made in accordance with regulations for fellowship appointments at universities, and with regulations concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. A contract will be drawn up detailing the period of appointment and required duties.

Preferred start date will be autumn 2017.
