The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (http://www.ntnu.edu/ie) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applications for a full-time researcher/Post.doc. in "Hyperspectral image processing" with the Department of Electronic Systems (IES), (http://www.ntnu.edu/ies).

The position is for up to 2 years.

Information about the Department

The Department currently has 25 professors, 5 associate professors, 17 adjunct professors/associate professors, 8 lecturers, 72 PhD students and 18 postdoctors/scientists. The Department has the principal responsibility for education and research in electronic systems at NTNU. The Department encompasses research and education within the areas of electro-optics; electronic devices and materials; circuit and systems design; acoustics; radio systems; and signal processing.

Work description

The candidate will contribute to commercialization of a hyperspectral imaging system for early diagnostics of arthritis and will be working closely with prof. Lise L. Randeberg. The main contents of the position will be to develop and implement new algorithms for real time analysis of hyperspectral datasets, and extract information from such data sets for further processing and decision making.  The analysis will incorporate both physics informed modeling, statistical analysis and the use of AI. 

Qualifications.

It is a requirement to hold a Norwegian doctoral degree or a corresponding doctoral degree from a country outside Norway recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree. 

Personal suitability will be strongly emphasized. 

The candidate should have a strong background in statistical image processing, processing of big data or artificial intelligence. Knowledge in one or more of the following areas will an advantage: biomedical optics, chemometrics, physics based modeling, medical image processing  or image processing for remote sensing. Programming skills in Matlab, C++ and Qt are required, and skills in ENVI/IDL would be beneficial but not absolutely required.  Experience in advanced hyperspectral image processing will be positive.  Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required. The candidate should be self-driven and able to work independently. The candidate should be motivated for participating in commercialization of the developed solutions Focus on pragmatic problem solving, robust solutions, and lean development process is needed.

Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must provide evidence of good English language skills, written and spoken. The following tests can be used as such documentation: TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). Minimum scores are:

  • TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)
  • IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)
  • CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

Salary conditions

Code 1109 Researcher/Code 1352 Post doctor, salary grade 57–77 in the Norwegian State salary scale, gross NOK 488 900 – 719 600 per year, depending on qualifications.

A deduction of 2% is made as a statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
