The Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) is the premier Education school in Australia and in the Top 10 in the world. MGSE is home to 300 staff (FTE), 2600 students (EFTSL) and seven research centres as well as a number of internationally recognised experts.

The University of Melbourne is seeking to appoint a candidate of exceptional calibre to succeed Professor Field Rickards, and to lead the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) as Dean. As an executive of the University of Melbourne, the Dean will lead the academic mission of the MGSE providing direction across research, teaching, engagement and operations for this world-leading school.

The Dean, MGSE will be responsible for leading the research agenda of the MGSE and will drive engagement across the university as the main advocate and face of the graduate school. The Dean will build and develop connections with government and across the education sector re-enforcing the position that MGSE plays in education policy both here and overseas. As a member of the university’s leadership team, the appointee will work closely and collaboratively with the Vice-Chancellor and Provost and other Deans and university executives to achieve the strategic goals of the university.

The Dean, MGSE will also play a critical mentoring role in the development of MGSE staff, developing research and leadership capability and nurturing existing talent to build succession for the future.

The appointee will be a Professor with a distinguished international reputation and will have held significant academic leadership positions possibly as Dean or Head of School.
