Position Summary

The Assistant Director for Prevention and Education in the Women and Gender Advocacy Center (WGAC) is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director. The Assistant Director shares in providing leadership for the mission of the Women and Gender Advocacy Center through the initiation, development, administration, and evaluation of programs and services. This position provides leadership and implementation for education and outreach programming on social justice issues, with a specific focus on gender based violence prevention and sex and gender-based issues throughout the campus and community through various workshops and educational programs. This position will assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Director.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Women’s studies or a social science related field completed by the start date
  • Three years of related experience in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination, planning and facilitation of social justice educational programming about topics related to interpersonal violence and/or the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression across multiple identities (i.e. race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, etc)
  • At least one year supervision experience
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as necessary to best meet the needs of our students
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with dynamics related to interpersonal violence within marginalized communities
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination, planning and facilitation of interpersonal violence educational programming for students
  • Demonstrated success in educational program design including large-scale marketing initiatives and/or social norming campaigns
  • Ability to understand and articulate sex and gender-related needs and concerns from a social justice perspective that includes the intersections of gender, race, class, ability, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects of identity.
  • Demonstrated experience with social justice education with university athletics and/or fraternity/sorority life
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination and training of peer educators
  • Experience with supervision of professional staff
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with people, programs and organizations with distinctly varied missions, goals, and objectives
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, creating reports, assessment and developing/implementing learning outcomes
  • A record of personal and professional initiative, flexibility and strong communication skills, including public speaking and writing.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading and/or writing in an additional language. Ideally Spanish, Arabic and/or Chinese.

Coordinate the Red Whistle Brigade, CSU’s peer education program on gender related concerns.

Coordinate the Understanding Rape Supportive Culture program/class, creating awareness around issues of sexual assault in the fraternity/sorority community.

Manage the operation of educational programming including the coordination of program requests, assessing appropriate educational response and assigning peer and/or professional staff facilitators.

Oversee Men in the Movement, a program designed to educate college men about their role in ending sexism and motivate them to be active change agents

Oversee social media and online marketing, outreach and engagement for educational efforts and campus-wide initiatives like CTMO (Consent Turns Me On), Reframe, WGAC newsletter, WGAC website and other center social media platforms.

Provide leadership and vision for education and outreach programming on social justice issues, with a specific focus on sex and gender-based issues throughout the campus and community through various workshops and educational programs.

Participate in Student Diversity Programs and Services Cluster, Division of Student Affairs and other campus-wide projects through committee and special activities as assigned
