A Postdoctoral Research Fellow (AC2) post has been funded under the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme for a pioneering cross-border research project, designed to better understand and alleviate the impact of Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD).

‘BREATH’ (Border and Regions Airways Training Hub)

The BREATH project will involve a strong cross-border partnership between the Institute of Biomedical & Environmental Health Research (University of the West of Scotland; UWS), the Smooth Muscle Research Centre (Dundalk Institute of Technology; DkIT) and the School of Pharmacy and School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences (Queen’s University Belfast; QUB) and. It will establish a world-class cluster of researchers, involving collaborations between scientists and clinicians, that will help address the causes, treatment and potential prevention of COPD.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to join an internationally recognised group in the Institute of Biomedical and Environmental Health Research (IBEHR) within the School of Science and Sport.  The Institute supports a variety of programmes at postgraduate and undergraduate level to which you will also contribute.

Applications are invited from candidates with ideally, at least 3 years post-doctoral experience in respiratory and/or epithelial/immunobiology. The candidate will be required to support the research programmes of the BREATH project at UWS and partner institutions, including oversight of BREATH PhD students. Preferably the candidate would have experience in investigating respiratory (patho) biology in relevant cells and tissues, specifically, application of various molecular/cellular techniques to relevant tissues, fluids, primary cultures and cell lines.
