Description of Work Unit
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is situated in the Campus Life Cluster reporting to the Dean of Students. The office is dedicated to improving the overall experiences of its members and constituents. In collaboration with other Colorado State University resources, inter/national offices and associations, and alumni/ae, the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life provides leadership opportunities through student empowerment and involvement of its members in service to both CSU and the community.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life believes in the process of helping students reach their true potential. We believe the mission and vision will be achieved through infusing the following non-negotiables throughout our programs, services, and conversations with students. • Change Agents: The OFSL will impart socially responsible leadership on fraternity and sorority members, focusing on doing good in the community, identifying root causes of social and systemic issues, recognizing and challenging inequities in society, and participating in an ever-growing and changing global society with the knowledge that individual actions matter.

• Meaning-Making & Purpose: The OFSL will create opportunities for fraternity and sorority members to intentionally seek meaning from failures and successes to grow and develop as well as discover individual and organizational purpose to pursue a more authentic and congruent student experience.
• Building Coalitions and Connections: The OFSL will assist students in looking inward to one’s identity and wellbeing as a prelude to connection with others and provide experiences to ensure that friendship and fraternal bonds are filled with care, concern, and challenge to elevate the status quo. The OFSL will assist fraternity and sorority members as they seek healthy and diverse fellowship with members across chapters and councils, alumni/ae, Colorado State University, and the global community.
The Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life provides ongoing educational, cultural, and leadership development programs, services, resources, and advising for the fraternity and sorority community that consists of 45+ chapters with over 3000 members, and respective governing councils and auxiliary groups. The Assistant Director provides leadership to the department through budget management and work on strategic initiatives. The Assistant Director supervises a full-time program coordinator, up to five Chapter Graduate Advisors, and five undergraduate student interns. In addition, the Assistant Director creates, teaches/facilitates educational courses and programs. This is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
The Assistant Director is responsible for evaluating programs for fraternity and sorority members and community constituents. The Assistant Director establishes relationships and works with other areas within the Division of Student Affairs, throughout the University, and with external constituents. In addition, the Assistant Director is committed to fostering an inclusive fraternity and sorority community through advising, supervision, and facilitation/teaching on topics connected to the Department’s goals around diversity and social justice.
Required Job Qualifications
• Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs in higher education, counseling, or related field.
• Three years of experience working with fraternity and/or sorority advising and/or inter/national fraternal organizations.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Full-time work experience in higher education.
• Thorough understanding of and appreciation for the fraternity and sorority community on both a local and national level, and the ability to articulate such to a varied public.
• Supervision experience.
• Experience planning and managing a complex budget with multiple revenue sources.
• Active involvement in professional association(s).
• Strong communication skills, including presentations and written correspondence and reports.
• Demonstrated strategic and innovative approaches to problem solving.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with various campus departments and constituents.
• Experience with classroom instruction and facilitation.
• Experience training students and staff.
• Demonstrated experience in event planning and student programming.
•Ability to advance the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching and outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities.
Job Duty Category Leadership Duty/Responsibility
• Develop and manage the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life programming budget ($60K).
- Responsible for development and final approval of program budget.
-Review and approve Program Coordinator purchase requests and expenditures.
• Provide leadership for department by addressing/resolving issues in absence of the Director.
• Provide vision to develop and execute strategic planning and program review processes.
• Serve as a member of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life “leadership team” for daily operations.
• Analyze and create reports on fraternity/sorority community statistics and progress through fraternity and sorority grade reports and chapters “at a glance documentation.” Make recommendations for improvement.
• Respond to/manage support for individual fraternity and sorority student/organization crisis.
• Represent the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life on Division of Student Affairs and University committees, task forces, campus orientations, resource fairs, and requested speaking engagements.
• Craft and initiate specifically tailored communication with assigned constituents, including advisors, alumni/ae, house corporation board members, house directors, inter/national officers and staff members, University colleagues, and community members and agencies.
• Lead conduct meetings related to fraternity/sorority and student organization behavior, including making decisions regarding outcomes/sanctions
Percentage Of Time 30 Job Duty Category Supervision Duty/Responsibility
• Hire, train, and evaluate one Administrative Professional FTE Employee, Program Coordinator, including annual performance evaluation and salary decisions (including hiring salary and recommendation of annual merit increases).
• Supervise up to five Chapter Graduate Advisors who work a combined 40 hours per week, including annual performance evaluation.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate five undergraduate student interns working a combined 45 hours per week.
- Create student employee schedule process and analyze staffing needs with budget considerations, monitoring schedules and determining adjustments as needed.
- Create and implement process for student employee mentoring and recognition, evaluate annually for improvements.
• Provide support to the Student Affairs in Higher Education practicum students through the creation of practicum job descriptions, contract development, and evaluation.
Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Advising Duty/Responsibility
• Advise chapter presidents, the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and Panhellenic Council (PHC), and their respective executive boards, judicial boards, and related committees and programs.
• Support individual fraternity and sorority chapters through education, advising, and mentoring.
• Lead the development, implementation, and review of the fraternity and sorority accreditation process.
• Educate the CSU community and engage with all fraternity and sorority governing councils to support understanding and appreciation for culturally-based fraternities and sororities
Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Teaching/Facilitating Duty/Responsibility
• Provide vision for and teach in academic course offerings for fraternity and sorority members including: Leadership Techniques for Fraternity and Sorority Members (emerging and advanced), Inclusive Leadership for Fraternity & Sorority Members, and/or Understanding Rape Supportive Culture in Fraternities and Sororities. Initiate, execute and maintain consistent communication re: these educational programs with the Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement Office, Student Diversity Programs and Services, the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, and Support and Safety Assessment.
• Design, implement, and evaluate leadership development training through retreats, institutes, workshops and programs for fraternity and sorority members and community constituents.
• Design, implement, and evaluate diversity and social justice programs and initiatives for the fraternity and sorority community.
Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Category Educational Content Development & Planning Duty/Responsibility
• Develop, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives connected to health and wellness topics in the fraternity and sorority community including, but not limited to: mental health, sexual assault prevention, sexual health, and alcohol and other drug prevention. Initiate, execute and maintain consistent communication re: these initiatives with the CSU Health Network, Support and Safety Assessment, the Women and Gender Advocacy Center, Orientation and Transition Programs, the Student Resolution Center, and Off Campus Life.
• Plan, execute, and evaluate efforts to advance the fraternity and sorority community in content areas including academic achievement, public relations and marketing, new member education, recruitment and retention, chapter management, membership development and accountability, leadership development, service and philanthropy, and harm reduction.
• Create resources related to educational content areas for use by fraternity and sorority members and governing councils.
