The School for Policy Studies wishes to appoint a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader in International Public Policy and Governance to strengthen the teaching and research profile in the field of International Public Policy and Governance. The purpose of this post is to contribute to the ongoing expansion of our teaching offer, and the School’s international profile for research excellence.

We welcome applicants from the broad field of international public policy and governance, for example International Organisations, global public policy and transnational public policy. We would welcome in particular applications from those who can offer additional substantive expertise in one or more of the following areas: welfare provision and social protection, migration, poverty, human rights, global health policy, corruption and feminist political economy.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of the School’s policy-related postgraduate and undergraduate degree programmes (e.g. MSc in Public Policy, BSc in Social Policy, BSc Criminology and MSc in Policy Research) where necessary. In particular, the post holder will collaborate on the delivery of existing core teaching commitments in MSc in Public Policy as well as have the opportunity to offer new units in their own areas of expertise across programmes.

Candidates should have a record of recent publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; the ability to supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate student dissertations; and demonstrate excellent administrative skills. Candidates should also have a good first degree or equivalent in a social science discipline and a PhD or equivalent in Public Policy, Political Science, Social Policy or a cognate discipline.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer/Reader level candidates would also be expected to demonstrate a record of designing and securing external funding; the potential to be a research leader in their field, showing an established national profile, and preferably an emerging international profile, for their work; and the ability to lead and develop a major teaching programme.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant School, with excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.

The starting date of the successful applicant to take up the appointment will be negotiable but preferably not later than 1 September 2017 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on 1 May 2017.

It is expected that the final selection process will be held on 23 May 2017.
