The University of Bristol invites applications to a permanent lectureship (Lecturer B) in contemporary art and visual culture. Bristol has a national reputation as a centre of contemporary art with institutions such as Situations, Arnofini, Spike Island, etc. together with a vibrant street art and pop-up exhibition culture. Engagement in contemporary visual culture will complement the work of colleagues working in art history in the modern period and across the Faculty in Digital Humanities, Black Humanities and Performance Practices. However, candidates who can demonstrate excellence in research and teaching specialising in the contemporary period in all geographical areas are invited to apply.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute fully to high-quality teaching and administration within the Department of History of Art and to pursue research in her/his area of specialism to the highest standards in order to enhance the international research profile of the Department, the School of Humanities, and the Faculty of Arts. The appointment start date is 1st September 2017.

Timescale of appointment:

Long-listed candidates will be notified on or about 12th May 2017. They will be required to submit a sample of their work (in English, not more than 10,000 words) by 17th May 2017.

Short-listed candidates will be notified on or about 26th May 2017 and invited to interview.
