Professor and Director in Griffith Asia Institute
Griffith University has a long and distinguished record in teaching and research on the Asian region. It established the Griffith Asia Institute (GAI) in 2003 with the mission of producing innovative, interdisciplinary research on the political, economic, and security dimensions of the contemporary Asia-Pacific. The Griffith Asia Institute is a major portal for the University to project its regional expertise to the external world, and the Institute is pivotal to driving Griffith's Asia-Pacific strategy.
Griffith University seeks to appoint an outstanding individual to the key leadership position of Director, Griffith Asia Institute. This individual will have a strong external focus, possess a high-level record of academic and/or policy-related expertise, and be recognised as a leading authority in at least one key area of the politics, security, or economics of the Asia-Pacific.
This is a full time, fixed term appointment for five years as Professor and Director, Griffith Asia Institute and the position is renewable by mutual agreement, subject to performance. A substantive continuing position as Professor, Level E will be offered where appropriate. The position is based at the Nathan campus but the successful candidate will be expected to undertake inter-campus travel when required.
The role provides leadership and management to the Griffith Asia Institute and will be responsible for attracting significant external funding for research, creating new and nurturing existing national and international collaborations, and representing GAI within the University and externally among local, national, and international stakeholders.
The successful applicant will possess a PhD and/or a significant national and established international reputation in an aspect of Asia-Pacific relations. In addition, the successful candidate will have leadership experience in a high profile institutional context, as well as a proven track record of success in managing research and public outreach/engagement programs. S/he will also demonstrate established links with the academic, business and government sectors, the capacity to expand the Institute's existing national and international networks (including the diversification of income streams), and the ability to manage and develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
