Job Description

Boston University School of Law is seeking a part-time lecturer/instructor to co-teach a semester-long transaction simulation course to be offered in the Spring semester 2018. The course, entitled Transaction Simulation: Forming and Financing a Start-up Business, will expose students to the principal issues involved in counseling U.S.-based entrepreneurs as to their emerging businesses, including choice of entity and entity formation, equity compensation for founders and employees, intellectual property protection of company assets, capital raising through preferred stock financing, and negotiation of financing-related contracts based on industry-standard models.

Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have at least ten (10) years of legal practice experience in the United States counseling and advising start-up businesses and investors who finance such businesses, and thus a solid command of the legal and business issues encountered and standard documentation used in this area of practice. Candidates should have prior teaching experience at the university level or equivalent in the field of business law and be comfortable working with international students from diverse backgrounds. Since the position is for an instructor to co-teach the course with another experienced business law attorney who is currently a part-time faculty member and who developed and will lead the class, candidates must be comfortable working in a team setting. Effective communication and organizational skills are essential for this position.

DO NOT APPLY THROUGH THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY HR WEBSITE.

Applications comprised of a cover letter and CV should be sent to Kent Coit, Professor of the Practice of Law and Director, Transactional Law Program, at lawappts@bu.edu.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
