Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professors in Social Sciences
The Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at the Southern University of Science and Technology invites applications for full-time tenured or tenure-truck faculty positions in social sciences at ranks of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor, to begin September 2017. The successful candidates will teach general education courses covering the following four core areas: 1) Science, Technology and Society, including history of science, ethics of science, sociology of science, and policy of science; 2) Environmental Studies, including environmental history, environmental policy, and environmental culture; 3) New Media and Visual Culture, including media and society, science, technology and arts, and cultural industry; and 4) Globalization, including transnational migration, comparative area studies, ethnographic studies and critical theories. The successful candidates will contribute to social science curricula that encourage interdisciplinary approach. Quality undergraduate teaching and mentorship, as we as innovative research and service are expected. With the exception of senior candidates with tenure, initial appointment will normally be made on a three-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Tenure review and promotion normally takes place before completion of the second three-year contract.
Applicants should have a PhD degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Senior candidates are expected to have a high international standing in the fields, with an exceptional track record of high-quality research and scholarly publications. The university teaching languages are English and Chinese. Satisfactory knowledge of Chinese is preferable but not required.
