Staff Theatrical House Electrician
The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Colorado State University is seeking applicants for a Staff Theatrical House Electrician (HE).
Hours are flexible, some evenings and weekends required during rehearsal and production runs.
This position requires physical strength, coordination, and flexibility (must climb ladders / trestles and be able to move over 50 lbs); must be able to work at any height on ladders (including trestle style i.e. “a-frame”), Genie personnel lifts, scaffolding, and a wide variety of catwalks.
Required Job Qualifications
1. Bachelor degree (BA, BFA) in Theatre, Theatre Design and Production emphasis.
2. At least two years of electrics experience in academic theatre.
3. Knowledge and experience in technical areas of theatre lighting and sound; basic computer and digital media skills.
4. Knowledge of CAD drafting (Vectorworks)
5. Ability to interact well with others and speak and understand common vocabulary among artisans is a must. Evidence of organization, self-motivation and self-sufficiency.
Preferred Job Qualifications
ETCP (Entertainment Technology Certification Program) Certification is an advantage, but is not required.

Lighting Crew Head
The Staff HE is the lighting crew head, and is directly responsible to the lighting designer for the installation and maintenance of the lighting design, including assembling lighting equipment, supervising hang and focus, installation of special equipment such as automated luminaries, special effects lighting and all power distribution.
The Staff HE must also be conversant on all lighting equipment and control consoles, as well as current trends in software and technologies, which requires constant research, practice and improvement of skills.
The Staff HE is the Independent Lighting Supervisor for all production activity and preparation for MTD season productions.
Throughout the full 12-month annual contract for the maintenance, repair and ordering of parts, lamps, cable, gobo sheets, the entire lighting inventory, with special attention to safety lines and backups and liability.
Communicates inventory condition and all electrics needs for MTD to the Chair of the MTD Tech Fee Committee.
The Staff HE is responsible for the coordination of the cues with the lighting designer, stage manager, and board op, and is on-call for any problems that arise during technical rehearsals and performance, is the ultimate authority responsible for the programming and operation of the lighting control console during the production, as well as channel, color and focus check every evening before the performance. The Staff HE is also responsible for current copies and backups of all soft (computer) and hard (printed copies) information for the design. Especially critical during Q-to-Q rehearsals and the weeks from production hang and through tech weeks, dress rehearsals, opening and run. The Staff HE reports to the Faculty Head of Lighting Design.
