Enhance  our learning, teaching and research profile across a diverse range of disciplines

The University of Winchester is a university on a human scale, with an emphasis on the personal creativity and development of its students and its staff. It is a values-driven institution. As Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, you will drive our national and international expansion, and enhance our reputation for research and teaching.
Responsible for the academic leadership of this well-regarded Faculty, you will work with the Heads of Department and other senior staff to develop our offering, building on our emerging research profile and our excellent record of teaching in areas including Applied Social Sciences , Archaeology, History, Psychology and Theology, Religion and Philosophy. That means identifying new markets and expanding the academic portfolio, while maintaining a strong focus on a high-quality student experience.

You’ll also be a member of the University Management Group, acting as a regional, national and international ambassador for the Faculty and University and making a major strategic contribution to the future of the University as a whole.

An active academic researcher, with an excellent track-record in securing funding and grants, you’ll combine significant management experience in a higher education environment with subject expertise in a relevant area of the humanities or social sciences. However, what really sets you apart is your collaborative approach to leadership and your talent for establishing credibility and rapport with colleagues. This includes the ability to set and deliver a vision, and the communication and negotiation skills to foster productive links with community and professional groups. Evidence of creativity and innovation is essential, alongside a commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement

In return we offer access to a wide range of benefits and support, a comprehensive staff development programme, generous holiday entitlement and a defined benefit pension scheme.
