IT Services

Birkbeck is a world-class research and teaching institution and London’s only specialist provider of evening higher education.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced delivery-focused Head of IT Infrastructure to undertake overall management of the systems and network infrastructure at Birkbeck. As a key member of the IT Services management team you will be responsible for the university’s IT infrastructure which is increasingly critical to the operation of the institution.

This important role is required to take the lead on development of our infrastructure strategy and delivery of change projects with the associated procurement required to implement it. The successful candidate will also be required to provide leadership to the ITS System and Network team composed of 14 IT professionals.

Ideally educated to degree level, you will have experience of successfully managing IT infrastructure projects through the full project cycle in a complex and diverse environment. You will also have the ability to develop positive relationships with key stakeholders within the university and with technology suppliers. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team involved with a number of major change projects in support of the university’s strategic objectives, which include replacement of the VMWare server virtualisation environment, replacing telephony and call-centre services, implementing a new perimeter firewall, moving critical business systems to cloud hosting and developing full use of Office365 functionality.

Salary: Grade 9 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £53,361 rising to £59,587 per annum.

This post is full-time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open ended.
