Information about the department and the research

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) (http://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/cse/Pages/default.aspx) is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 240 employees from over 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor's, Master's and graduate levels, offering more than 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.

The Department conducts internationally competitive research, education and innovation in many CSE core subjects: Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Computer Security, Distributed Systems, Electronic System Design, Formal Methods, Logic, Networking, Software Technology, Software Engineering, Language Technology and Reliable Computer Systems.

Research, education and innovation cover most areas of vital importance for the computing system stack ranging from Algorithms to Computer Architecture. In particular, the Department has strong research environments in both programming languages and computer architecture that are engaged in topics such as Domain-specific Languages, Language-based Security, Parallel Computing, Parallel Computer Architecture and Reconfigurable Computing. What is currently lacking is expertise in Compiler Construction. For this reason, the Department is seeking a faculty member in Compiler Construction willing to act as an important bridge between other areas represented in the Department. There is a very fruitful collaboration climate across the different research groups in the department and the candidate has many opportunities for building a successful research agenda with links to other research areas. Examples of such collaborations could be with the Functional Language programming group and with the Computer Architecture group.

Major responsibilities
The Department is looking for an excellent and motivated Full professor or Associate professor and research leader, who has a broad knowledge in Computer Science. Her/his expertise is in Compiler Construction with a proposed specialization on code generation and optimization techniques targeting parallel and heterogeneous computer architectures to meet challenging demands on performance, energy efficiency and/or security although other areas may be considered. The successful applicant will have the opportunity and is expected to take a leading position in developing the subject area concerning education, including active supervision of doctoral and master students, research and innovation activities.

Position summary
Full-time permanent position.

Qualifications
A successful candidate has

- a PhD in Computer Science

- a solid publication track in Compiler Technology

- a solid experience in graduate and PhD education in Compiler Construction

- a  track record  in attracting research funding.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you must be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Further, it is seen as an advantage if the candidate has broader teaching experience in computer science and/or computer engineering topics. It is also seen as an advantage if the candidate has been engaged in innovation/utilisation projects.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
