Manager: Student Affairs Tygerberg Campus (MSA)
The primary aim of the Division Student Affairs is to support and develop students and to develop the living and learning environment in such a way that it is conducive to the development of successful graduates. Student Affairs is engaged in this process via broad spectrum of co-curricular activities in the listening, learning and living communities. The management processes of Student Affairs are value-driven, evidence-based and aligned to the most appropriate national and international practices.
The aim of this post is to ensure coordination and integration of the various Student Affairs functions on Tygerberg Campus. These include the coordination of residences and cluster structures, student leadership, mentoring programmes, counselling and support services, financial aid, welcoming and recruitment administration, among others. SU wants to appoint a manager to give strategic direction to and formalise the coordination of these functions. The post will give vision to Student Affairs on Tygerberg Campus and work very closely with the Deputy Dean Learning and Teaching, the Deputy Registrar and Student Affairs Centres. The post reports to the Senior Director Student Affairs as well as the Deputy Dean: Learning and Teaching (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences).
• Develop a vision for student support and development in close cooperation with:
o Learning and Teaching Responsibility Centre at SU
o all the Centres in Student Affairs
o the Deputy Registrar on Tygerberg Campus
o the Deputy Dean Learning and Teaching
• guide staff to develop a joint implementation framework for Student Affairs on this campus
• ensure coordination and integration of the various functions
• ensure all administrative processes and reporting lines are optimally engaged
• ensure alignment of these diverse functions
• ensure alignment with the environment of this campus with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
• Relevant postgraduate degree;
• At least 3 years’ experience in a Higher Education environment relating to student learning and development;
• Proven expertise with regard to programme design, presentation of training and in developing co-curricular programmes;
• 3 years’ management and/or leadership experience;
• Excellent communication skills in English and at least one other African Language
• Excellent writing skills and writing management documents;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Excellent planning and organisational skills;
• Excellent ability to cooperate in a team and to lead a team;
• Sensitivity for the needs of a diverse student community that includes minority groups and international students.
Please note that some of the activities will take place outside normal working hours.
As part of the interview process and according to set requirements shortlisted candidates will be required to do an assessment exercise, including a short presentation of 10 minutes.
Commencement of duties: 1 May 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter
