The financial environment for Higher Education is going through a period of major change and challenge; at the same time the University has made and is continuing to implement major changes to its finance systems and processes.
 
A vacancy has arisen within the University's Procurement Team at an important stage in its development for a full time open ended managerial position. Over the last few years significant progress has been made in embedding a more strategic approach to procurement and we are seeking to recruit an experienced professional to lead this continued progression.  The role involves leading procurement activities across a range of commodity areas. Applications from candidates without extensive relevant procurement experience will not be considered.  
 
The University of Bristol spends over £100m per year on external goods and services. The Procurement Team is responsible for obtaining best value for this expenditure and ensuring that University procurement regulations and Procurement legal requirements are followed. 
 
The Team handles over 100 tenders annually as well as managing expenditure on various commodities, in particular where expenditure is above £25k. Additionally, the University has embedded eProcurement and the Team are heavily involved in optimising its use. The main contract areas which are likely to be managed in this role will be laboratories equipment and consumables crossing over with Engineering but flexibility across other categories is required. The Department also supports a diverse range of one off purchases of goods and services.
