The Systems Administrator position is part of a collaborative team of IT professionals within the Systems Group that provides an efficient, secure, and reliable computing environment for 8000+ residents and 1200+ staff within the department of Housing and Dining Services (HDS). This position is responsible for enabling strategic IT initiatives by providing server, network and storage infrastructure, and implementing primarily Microsoft Windows Server-based applications and server suites.
Required Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CIS or related field
• OR Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field plus two additional years of work experience as a systems administrator
• At least two years of professional experience in an enterprise-level system administration role, resulting in proficiency in some of the following, or similar, technologies:
o Microsoft Active Directory
o Microsoft Hyper-V
o Microsoft SQL Server
o Microsoft Failover Clustering
o Microsoft SharePoint
o Microsoft Internet Information Services
o Microsoft System Center products (specifically: Data Protection Manager, Virtual Machine Manager, Configuration Manager, or Operations Manager)
o Linux (e.g. CentOS)

Job Duty Category System/network administration Duty/Responsibility
Collaborate in the daily system/network administration activities of the Systems Group team by responding to escalated user work orders that need in-depth troubleshooting and technical expertise, contact/interact with vendor technical support to provide necessary logs, diagnostics, and testing to resolve all issues, and work to complete assigned system or project tasks in support of divisional/departmental initiatives and business needs.
Percentage Of Time 25 Job Duty Category Server Systems Infrastructure Duty/Responsibility
Design, implement, and maintain both physical and virtual server systems infrastructure, some of which are in a clustered or load balanced environment. This requires understanding department business needs, researching solutions, becoming proficient in related server technologies and collaborating with Systems Group staff, in support of strategic divisional/departmental initiatives and business needs.

Provide primary lead or backup (cross-training) support of systems services and specific business critical applications through developed competency in the relevant technologies and utilizing Project Management and Change Management processes to ensure reliable production-level system services.

Be proactive in monitoring complex systems and service infrastructure utilizing best practices, health monitoring systems and alerting systems to identify issues and develop production change requests to resolve problems. At times monitoring, troubleshooting and incident handling may require after-hours response, some of which may need to be on-site.
