About the opportunity
The Broken Hill Department of Rural Health (BH UDRH) operates a research centre in partnership with the Far West Local Health District. The centre focuses its research efforts on specific health issues affecting rural and remote populations by developing and evaluating regionally relevant projects and by undertaking the remote component of wider research and development projects.

As a research leader you will contribute to research consistent with the aims and direction of the department. You will be responsible for the research centre and providing strategic and academic leadership in the department’s research capacity building components in line with the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program Research Parameters.

You will provide support to novice researchers in the region and develop networks with researchers in western NSW.  You will also contribute towards the department’s growing expertise in the area of rural health, specifically in areas concerning rural health workforce development and health issues affecting people living in rural and remote areas of western New South Wales.

We are looking for a Senior Research Fellow (Level C) or Principal Research Fellow (Level D) who possesses:

  • an understanding issues relating to rural health and rural health workforce development
  • a track record in the publication of research and production of evidence summaries 
  • a track record in obtaining peer reviewed grants (desirable for Level C; essential for Level D)
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work closely and harmoniously with colleagues
  • potential to make an outstanding contribution to rural health research through providing leadership in University, professional and community affairs
  • proven management skills and a proven record of being able to encourage the development of staff and students.
  • experience working with health agencies and government departments at central and regional levels
  • demonstrated ability to translate research findings into improved healthcare outcomes
  • demonstrated leadership in research training and capacity building including continuing professional development and supervision of novice researchers and, at Level D, postgraduate research students and postdoctoral researchers
  • ability to work in a complex and challenging environment.

You have a PhD or equivalent in health or medical research and significant and relevant postdoctoral experience.
