Whilst close to half of graduates from STEM fields are women, there is a significant underrepresentation of women in senior academic roles in these fields.

The Director, WiEIT is responsible for the strategic vision, development and delivery of a range of programs and teaching and research activities that enhance the student experience and address the pressing need for diversity and inclusion in the Engineering and IT professions. The position is one of influence and leadership within the Faculty and also externally in the industry, government, professional associations and K-12 school sectors. 

Detailed Description

The Director will have overall responsibility of the Women in Engineering and Information Technology (WiEIT) initiative and all associated programs. The primary focus of the role is on women as one of the underrepresented groups in the Faculty, but will also collaborate on initiatives with indigenous and low SES students.

The Director, WiEIT will:

  • Advocate, inspire and provide guidance to ensure the needs of women and underrepresented groups are met
  • Conduct research into the education and professional development needs of these groups as well as
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to embed community and social justice –based projects into subject curriculums for students.
  • Lead collaboration and develop new partnerships with industry, professional associations and government and NGO’s that support the WiEIT initiative.

In addition, the Director will be a leader within the Faculty and across the wider University community for STEM related educational research and teaching activities.

The Director will be appointed at a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level and will have responsibility for furthering the research and teaching standards of the Faculty. A research background aligned with Faculties research strategy is required.

Remuneration & Benefits

This appointment will be on a three year fixed term, full-time basis which, on conclusion, offers reversion to a substantive Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (C/D) level position on a continuing, full time basis.

A competitive remuneration package will be provided to the successful Director candidate for the duration of the term (in addition to the academic level remuneration). The current total remuneration package a level C/D position ranges between $119, 674 and $153,611 per annum – this comprises salary plus 17% superannuation.
