Ara is a leading South Island provider of two year (diploma) and three year (degree) engineering qualifications. These engineering qualifications, alongside architectural and construction related programmes in the Department of Engineering and Architectural Studies contribute to the revitalisation of Christchurch and the Canterbury region. Our campuses located in Christchurch provide well equipped, practical learning facilities for studying engineering.

Our Department of Engineering and Architectural Studies is looking for an energetic, versatile, and qualified professional to join forces with us in the city that offers more opportunities in the building environment than anywhere else in New Zealand.

The role

Applications are welcomed from qualified Civil Engineers, especially those with a transport/traffic engineering background, who are interested in joining our team teaching in the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering. This is an opportunity to engage in a collaborative and modern teaching environment applying a variety of learning centred teaching approaches including project and problem based learning. While we are pleased to recognise teaching experience in tertiary education we are well equipped to provide support if you are new to teaching.

Academic staff participate in the development of courses, delivery material and programmes and in project work undertaken by the Department of Engineering and Architectural Studies.

Your skills

A degree in engineering with expertise in traffic and transport engineering (BE, BEngTech or equivalent). Teaching experience would be a distinct advantage, but more important is your recent and relevant industry background working as a transport, traffic and/or highway engineer.

Benefits

We offer and encourage professional and skill development. Enjoy excellent employment conditions, a great central city location and access to modern on-site facilities including gym/recreation centre with free staff yoga and group fitness sessions, library, Visions on campus restaurant, two childcare centres and a health centre.
