Part-time Language Teacher

We ask that you send a CV and Covering Letter to mark.critchley@durham.ac.uk to be considered for this post, please do not apply through the people+ portal.

The Centre for Foreign Language Study offers a portfolio of language courses to non-specialist language learners, including students and researchers at Durham University, businesses, public sector organisations and members of the public.

Courses are currently delivered by a mixture of permanent core teaching staff and part-time teachers, and are delivered as both daytime and evening classes. Due to sustained and planned future growth in our levels of activity we wish to expand our pool of part-time and bank teachers. These opportunities may also be suitable for PhD Students looking to gain valuable experience in teaching.

We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals with expertise in delivery of language teaching in the following languages:

Modern Greek
Modern Hebrew
Mandarin Chinese
Portuguese (Brazilian)

Teaching normally takes place at the Durham University campuses in Durham city, and occasionally at third party locations across the northeast of England.

This advertisement does not constitute the potential offer of a contract of employment with Durham University, but is seeking expressions of interest in joining a pool of temporary teachers. No guarantee can be made at this stage in terms of volume of teaching, although typically this may be between 2-6 hours per week for typically 20-24 weeks per annum throughout the year. Part-time and bank teachers are paid monthly on a pro-rata basis at agreed hourly rates.

Those interested should have a degree in a subject relevant to the teaching of the language, and prior experience of teaching in the target language in a professional setting. A prior teaching qualification is also desirable. Native speakers of the target language are desirable, but not essential.

If you are interested in joining our team, please submit an expression of interest via email, including an up-to-date CV, to Mark Critchley, Director of the Centre for Foreign Language Study, at mark.critchley@durham.ac.uk before 2 May 2017.
Closes midday on :  02-May-2017
