The Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, http://www.ntnu.edu/ie at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has vacancy for a position as researcher at Department of Electric Power Engineering, http://www.ntnu.edu/elkraft (IEL). The position has a duration of one year, with the possibility of extension to two years.

Information about the department

Currently there are 9 professors and 8 associate professors at the department. In addition, there are 7 adjunct associate professors, 7 postdoctoral researchers, approx. 30 PhD students. Research activities are organized into two groups: Power systems and Power Technology.

Information about the position

The available position is linked to the research project "Environmental assessment of electric vehicle deployment pathways for Europe" at NTNU. The project’s objective is to assess the environmental characteristics of a large-scale deployment of EVs in Europe and investigate under which conditions such a deployment would be most beneficial when executed in the near, medium or long term. The researcher is expected to contribute to the project by analysing environmental impacts of electricity delivery to EVs across Europe under selected future electricity supply scenarios. The work will be performed in close cooperation with other researchers at the department as well as with the other project partners. Key tasks is expected to be: Selection of suitable power market modelling tool(s), updating data-sets according to the project needs, perform simulations of selected scenarios, and interact with the other modelling tasks in the project, especially related to LCA analysis.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) within electrical engineering or similar and have a good background in power system planning and operation. It is necessary to have previous research experience from power market simulation and EV integration studies.

Excellent analytical and communication skills are required.

The candidates must have an ability to work independently as well as in teams. 

Applicants currently enrolled in a PhD programme who expect to pursue the PhD degree before the date of appointment must forward documentation for the date of their final exam.

The person who is appointed must comply with the conditions that apply at any time to employees in the public sector. In addition, a contract will be signed regarding the period of employment.

Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must provide evidence of good English language skills, written and spoken. The following tests can be used as such documentation: TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English.

(CPE). Minimum scores are:

TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)

IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)

CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

Salary conditions:

The position is in code 1109 Researcher, salary grade 57–72 in the Norwegian State salary scale, gross NOK 488 900 – 647 700 per year, depending on qualifications. A deduction of 2% is made as a statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
